More protective nuances

Another email scam sneaked through the company spam filter; yet again even the most gullible reader (and did you know the word "gullible" was accidentally dropped from the 10th edition of the OED?) could hardly fail to be alerted by the standard of English.

For example: "we have also increased more security" and "you are advice to follow the link below".

Could it be that naughty children who fail to pay attention in English lessons are laying themselves open to computer fraud?

I received quite a convincing scam banking email the other day; here's the text. I think you will see why some people might be fooled:

"Halifax Online Banking Security Department has been receiving complaints from our customers for unauthorised uses of the Halifax Online Banking accounts. As a result we are temporarily shutting down some selected Halifax Online Banking Accounts perceived vulnerable to this, pending till the time we carry out proper verification by the account owner. Halifax Online Banking is committed to ensure the safeguard of each customer personal information, making sure only authorised individuals have access to their accounts."

This was a particularly good one...I wasn't fooled as I've never banked with Barclays!! The link at the bottom looks genuine, but it's a totally different (and decidedly dodgier looking) when it appears in your browser and asks you for all you details....
