Production desk Christmas: 2

Well, having just finished a delightful day of confusion and extra work caused by our charges failing to do their jobs thoroughly (and this, mark you, on an annual product we publish over the Christmas holiday) I can only say that shooting would be too good for them.

Christmas? Bah humbug, says I.

ah, but if they did their jobs thoroughly, would folks like you and me HAVE a job?

I had a copyeditor working under me who used to complain that the writers were filing copy w/ commas in the wrong place, or using the wrong state abbreviation.

I kept pointing, that's part of why we still have a job, and why we are so valuable.

You have writers that can use commas?!

Fair point, tootsync – but wouldn't it be nice if the little darlings got the basics nice so the likes of you, JD and I could concentrate on polishing their prose rather than merely making it adequate...

Yes, you're right of course, we do need them. If only they realised how much they need us!

LOL, no I didn't have writer that could use commas--oh, wait, you mean, use them at ALL!

Frustrating as those days are, I sort of like it when I get to swoop in and save the day. I figure, they'll never take the risk of laying me off, if they know how important I am.

So, I'm always sure to point OUT how much of their bacon I've saved....
